I started out with a walk around downtown Stavanger.  They were having "city days" so all the shops had sidewalk sales and there were singing groups out, vending booths, and a big party atmosphere.  Then I took the ferry to Tau (my first ferry experience!) and set off to hike up Preikestolen.  This is a very high, flat rock at the edge of a fjord which drops straight down 600 meters to the sea below.  It's a two hour hike to the top, but the views along the way are great.  See for yourself!

Looking out at the sea near the town of Tau. A replica of a Viking burial mound with a stone containing the Viking alphabet on it (I think!!)
I thought this was such a pretty little farm, had to snap a shot of it. A beautiful mountain pass on the way to Preikestolen.

Scenes of the lake at the visitor center at Preikestolen. Shot of the dirt roof with grass on it, and the bluff behind there is for Eric.

Beautiful scenery you see along the hike A look out into the fjord above, and a timer shot of myself on the hike
Beautiful, beautiful views everywhere you look
Preikestolen from the side, see the people on top for scale?  It was really awesome.  I looked over the side, but not for long! This is a lovely island in Lysefjord.  One family lives on it now.  I was told that this island has been inhabited for many hundreds of years.

Far-away view of the bridge to Forsand.  There's a rabbit on that grassy hill there but he doesn't show up in the picture. Closer view of the bridge, hard to see but at the left it ends in a tunnel.
I took this while driving over the bridge (Mom, I promise I was going very slowly!)   You can see the tunnel at the end. This is a little farm on the other side of the bridge in Forsand.  I liked how the mountain dwarfed the house.  I went here to see a prehistoric village called Landa but it was closed for the day.  I saw parts of it from the road but not well enough to get pics.

The town of Forsand, taken from the tiny area called Oanes.  This is where I caught the ferry to Lauvvik Here's a shot of the ferry I took, my second that day!
My childish sense of humor made me take this.  It's a sign on the ferry.  I don't know what "overfart" means in Norwegian but I really liked how you shouldn't smoke near one!   One of the many tunnels in the area.
