Paris  -  Chamonix  -  Notre Dame  -  Eric's

You cannot travel with a Geo-head without taking the occasional shot of rock formations.  We took this from the train to Chamonix. One of our first views of Chamonix - it is such a beautiful city.

Eric out on the street
This river runs through the middle of town - georgous!

Here's a nice view of some of the glaciers in the area. We got such a kick out of these Smart Cars.  They were everywhere and so cute - this is a big one, if you can imagine a car getting any smaller!

A couple shots of our hotel and it's nice view.  It overlooked the river on the back as well.  It also had an exercise room, sauna, and (believe it or not) a climbing wall!

This was the view out of one of our windows.

I'm going to have to frame this shot, it is so beautiful.

Here's a shot of the climbing area outside Chamonix.  It's very tall - at least 100 ft.  Eric contemplating a climb...

Eric way up on a difficult climb Here he is again, just goofing around

These were two very old guys who were climbing with very little protection.  Eric tried to tell the man that he skipped a bolt but the man said, "Is not necessary"  Crazy!! Here's me, doing my climbing thing.

This is a shot taken back into a cave.  All the caves, even very small ones, showed evidence of having been bricked up at some point in the past.  Guess they were all used to store things. This was a beautiful little spot by a lake where we had a nice picnic lunch after a day of climbing.  It was a very special place, it made for one of those perfect moments that you like to remember always.

Here I am with my backpack on, ready to make the hike back into town. On the way into town we had to pass the Hostel, this is a place where you can get a room for $12 per night and had the cheapest beer in town.  No surprise, this is where many of the area climbers were staying.  This is Gareth on the right above, I can't remember the other guy's name.  Gareth was very funny.

We ended up making some great friends at the Hostel and spending lots of time there.  These guys were from all over the world and had been all over the world, they were lots of fun!  Check out Eric in the picture above - one of his few true smiles ever caught on film!

This guy was the only other American besides us.  I really liked him and am sad that I've forgotten his name!
